This Not-So-Secret Tool Will Help You (Finally) Stick to a Fitness Program
It's an amazing time to be alive. There are so many great tools, products, and conveniences that make our lives more productive and enjoyable.
Our health and fitness are not excluded from this observation, either.
Despite all of the fancy new technology, unconventional training equipment, and direct support of powerful coaches (Hey! I know a guy!), there is one tool that rules them all.
And it might not be what you think it is either.
What is it?
IT'S YOUR CALENDAR.
Many of us can't seem to find the time to take care of our bodies and minds.
But it's not that you couldn't find the time, it's that you didn't make the time - an important distinction.
When you schedule your workouts in advance, the likelihood of you following through skyrockets. Because when you schedule in advance, your brain starts to plan for this. It's as if it expects it to happen.
So, simply by putting your workouts on your calendar (notifications are recommended a half hour to an hour before), it becomes more challenging NOT to work out.
It's been said that failing to plan is planning to fail. And for those of us that struggle to find time to get to the gym because of work, family, or other commitments, we know that what is not in the plan is not going to get done.
So what do we do from here? Now it's time to ACT on this information.
ACTION IS EVERYTHING.
Which means right now, minimize this article and open up your calendar and create daily events for your workouts. Set aside as much time as you think you'll need. Then, add a 15-20 minute buffer because, well, things happen.
Try to add as much detail as possible so that you know exactly what you'll be doing on that day. The less ambiguity and unknown the better.
Even on the days where you will not be physically training, we recommend scheduling time for other forms of movement like stretching or mobility drills so that daily movement slowly but consistently becomes a habit.
We want to make it so simple to move your body on a daily basis that it becomes more challenging NOT to do it.
